Made in Chelsea star Jaime Laing became a sensation when he appeared in the second series in 2011. He has made his mark in the industry by acting in shows like he has appeared in shows such as Hollyoaks, Murder In Successville and Drunk History. He co-hosts the Private Parts podcast and appeared in the first series of Celebrity Hunted in 2017. This year he was set to participate in the popular dancing show ” Strictly Come Dancing” as a contestant with his pro partner Otis Mabuse. Other participants include TV star Anneka Rice, Olympic rower James Cracknell, former footballer David James, sports presenter Mike Bushell and ex-Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley.
However, his dreams of winning the glitterball suddenly came to a standstill when he was forced to quit the BBC show after suffering from a foot injury. He was injured while recording the launch show. The launch show was prerecorded for broadcast on 7 September. It introduces the stars and their professional dancing partners. Jaime landed awkwardly during a group dance performance for the prerecorded launch show.
Jaime is the first contestant to pull out before the beginning of the show during its 17 series. Before him contestants have quit during the show for completely unavoidable reasons. He was absolutely gutted about the injury which led him to be unable to walk for up to 8 weeks. He wished his fellow contestants well.
“I would like to wish the lovely couples all the very best and hope they enjoy their time on the show to the fullest.”
Many stars wished him recovery and express their grief over the news. The BBC said in a statement: “Sadly, due to an injury, Jamie Laing will no longer be able to take part in this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing. As the Strictly launch show was pre-recorded, He was still seen in the launch show with his first and final performance on the show this year.
Jaime uploaded a video message for his fans, where he said : “I won’t be dancing on Strictly because of my injury, which is really upsetting. But when these things happen you’ve got to be positive, when life throws you a curve ball you’ve got to knock it out of the park.
“I will support every single one of my buddies who are dancing this year.”
Strictly’s executive producer Sarah James was also sad to let Jaime go and claimed he lit up the ballroom during the launch show with his relentless energy. Jaime claimed it’s so upsetting my journey ended quickly but it doesn’t mean I wont be supporting everyone each week!!
His replacement for the show is former Emmerdale star Kevin Fletcher, 35, whom he congratulated in a sweet Instagram message. He gave a shout out to the soap star and wished him best of luck. We are also absolutely devastated over the unfortunate incident and are eagerly waiting for his comeback next year!
