The past two years have proven quite the roller coaster for Beyoncé. She endured countless rumors and news stories about the state of her marriage. She overcame bad press after the Met Gala in 2014, when her sister was caught in an elevator lambasting her husband, presumably for the cheating rumors that were dogging the couple.
Jay Z and Beyoncé embarked on a grueling music tour in June 2014, which many critics predicted would spell the end of their marriage. It didn’t. If anything, the couple strengthened their relationship, using the incident to explore new themes in their music.
Fast forward two years, Beyoncé is crushing it. She went on to release her critically acclaimed album, Lemonade, which many fans said was the best yet. She used this album to address her own fears about cheating and the challenges of marriage.
In February of this year, it was revealed that the singer was expecting twins. In an Instagram photo, the singer posed in a bra and underwear with a veil over her face surrounded by flowers in the background. She was barefoot and draped in cloth in an attempt to capture the timelessness of her beauty.
It was an iconic photo shoot as far as pregnancy announcements go. Last month, Jay-Z released his own album 4:44, which directly addressed those cheating rumors that dogged their marriage. The rapper’s producer, Dion Wilson said Beyoncé contributed to the project, personally backing the lyrics.
Ever the style chameleon, we look at Bey’s top feet moment this year.
She’s had quite the style transformation and while she’s never forsaken her unique fashion sense, her footwear choice did favour more comfortable options later in the year. At certain points in her pregnancy, Queen Bey’s feet took a noticeable strain from the weight of carrying twins. Standing at 5’6” the star wears a 8.5 shoe size in the US or 6.5 in the UK. However, on stage the star appears much taller in her stiletto rock star shoes and one-of-a-kind outfits. Let’s look at the five times her feet broke the internet in 2017:
1. The Discounted Stella McCartney Brogues
The time Beyoncé wore Stella McCartney Platform Brogues that were on sale. Yes, in Bey’s world this is news. Not only did Beyoncé wear the discounted shoes to the FYF Fest in LA, she had bloggers going on melt down, because amazingly they shoes were 50% off. Following the birth of her twins, Rumi and Sir, she made time to see her sister, Solange perform at LA’s FYF Festival. The star documented everything from being backstage to hanging out with her daughter Ivy, but what really caught everyone’s eyes were her shoes. Constructed of “lightweight cork wedge heel” and a “saw-edge” rubber sole, it’s no surprise these shoes were sold out in a matter of moments in the UK. They are still available in select sizes on the Net-a-Porter’s USA site.
2. Post-Birth Barefoot Photo-shoot
Fans went crazy, when Beyoncé posted her first photo after giving birth to twins, Rumi and Sir Carter. While neither Queen Bey or her twins were wearing shoes, all three looked natural, happy and relaxed for the photo-shoot. The infamous post-birth shoot racked over 11 million likes on Instagram and counting. It was more popular than Beyonce’s first post back in February 2017 to announce her pregnancy. Leave it to the next generation to help mom break the internet. Queen Bey didn’t need shoes or a frock to get people talking, just a simple crown of flowers and a healthy glow thank you very much.
3. Posing for a Family Photo in Prada Sandals
While expecting, Queen Bey’s footwear style became noticeably more relaxed. During a family photo for Easter, she posed with her mom Tina Lawson and Kelly Rowland, one of the former band members of 90s R&B group, Destiny’s Child. Sporting an off-the shoulder dress and a pair of Prada platform slides, the singer looked happy and relaxed. Featuring two gold leather straps, a pink and white platform and “jute-rope” accents, the sandales referenced the 90s footwear trend that has made a comeback. Fortunately, Bey did not pair these with crop tops or lace up jeans. We can say, she nailed this look. The shoes are still available on Net-a-porter.com US’s site and are also on sale this month.
4. When Hubby Jay Z massaged her ankles during a basketball game…
During a basketball date in May 2017, the rapper, Jay Z could be seen caressing his heavily pregnant wife, Beyoncé . Once again Beyoncé’s feet were making headlines again, not so much for her footwear, but the massage her husband gave her. The rapper was seen leaning down, gently massaging his wife’s ankles in the front-row seat of the game. It was thought that the singer’s legs could have been swollen from carrying the couple’s twins. Beyoncé was seen smiling. Jay Z was more than happy to take a break from the NBA game, a play-off between Los Angeles Clippers and the Utah Jazz to spend time with his wife.
5. When she wore thigh high boots to the Beauty and the Beast Premier
Beyoncé was seen wearing a thigh high pair of black boots by designer, Gianvito Rossi. The boots are called ‘Rolling High’ (or obvious reasons) and are made from suede. The boots featured a 10cm heel, substantial for most expectant mothers, not to mention the boot’s thigh high length. Beyoncé looked as cool as a cucumber. Pregnancy did not stop her from rocking thigh high boots. Sensibly, she choose the block heel, better for comfort and supporting her frame. In 2014, the singer also made headlines when she wore Tom Ford thigh high peep toe boots with black mosaic crystals. We are sensing a trend here.
A star’s feet are often the first things fans notice or comment on when it comes to their image. Beyoncé never misses a beat when it comes to her fashion choices, always on trend, always looking to the next biggest thing, while maintaining her personal style, it’s no surprise her feet are the subject of inches of columns. As a mother, a singer, a producer and a fashionista, we love that Beyoncé isn’t afraid to address her personal struggles and inspire women everywhere.
