One of the newest trends in malls and shopping centers and newly created “fish spas” offering a fish pedicure for your feet. Yes you heard that right, fish that love to eat the dead skin on your feet. Ewww!
The fish, usually Garra rufa or in some cases chin chin fish, don’t seem to mind the process and actively feed on the dead skin on your feet for between 15-30 minutes.
It has been reported by the mainstream media that the process could potentially spread HIV and hepatitis C although the chance of spreading either virus has been deemed extremely low risk.
The treatment has been used in countries like Turkey and the far east for a lot longer than western countries.
It is not recommended for diabetics or people with a compromised immune system.
